Love this. 'Specially as I love reading Dark Age fiction. Markers for goods from the earth make sense. Our nectarines aren't ripe yet but we've been freezing apricots, making cherry plum jam, gathering all manner of berries (freezing) for jams, almonds too, and lo, I picked my first tomato today.
Honouring 1 Feb by having slow-cooked lamb with our own tatties, peas and contorted carrots. Parsley, apple mint and chives from the garden.
And for dessert, triple choc and berry brownies with berries from the garden. Elderflower/ginger ale mix for quaffing. A vase of Hawthorn branches (with many green berries) on the table.
