Just read a great book 'How Big Things Get Done'. Fascinating, about how having time for imagination and creativity are essential.

Thanks for this great read. I'm just new to you on substack and love !

I do community development work in the homelessness sector, and I don't agree it has to be a hierarchy. I work with a beautiful man who does his small bit every Tuesday picking up rubbish, and he doesn't have his immediate needs met. In my experience it's both and. 💞

Hey Emma, that's beautiful to hear, thanks so much for sharing. The diagram is more about projects that involve a design phase, rather than established habits. It's based on my own lived experience, observing people around me and from the books I've read like 'From What Is To What If' by Rob Hopkins, and 'Humankind' and 'Utopia for Realists' both by Rutger Bregman. I really appreciate your comment, thanks so much for reading. 🧡

I love this post and your web redesign! I totally agree imagination is key to a better future, hand in hand with curiosity, which is essentially an openness to others and new ideas. One of the shitty things about late stage capitalism is how many of us are stuck in the bottom level of your pyramid - getting that level of security is hard work and we are so worn out. I'm excited to have found your substack and look forward to hearing your ideas - how to we make imagination so infectious that it can penetrate that bottom layer? What will help us all have the time for imagination and creativity?

Totally! It is exhausting.

My plan for making imagination infectious is to start by using my own to the max! And to continuously bang on about the virtues of making space for imagination, curiosity and awe - such a great trio. :D
