The first post I wrote here on Substack was called Rest as resistance: Why are we so tired? Is rest a reward or a right? So when Robyn from Pip Magazine contacted me to write about rest for the pages of Pip, I jumped at it.
Pip is a beautiful sustainability and permaculture magazine I have poured over for many years. It’s all about nourishing yourself and the planet - so the theme of radically revolting against grind culture by unapologetically taking it easy aligns beautifully with Pip’s ethos.
Being the winter edition of Pip, it was a lovely opportunity to speak to the feeling deep in our bones to rest more in winter. Yet, rest slips down the to-do list even though we can see examples of nature all around us settling into hibernation for winter - knowing there will be another productive period beyond this season of rest.
We can’t live in a state of perpetual harvest, so finding ways to incorporate rest into our daily lives is critical in a world that celebrates toxic productivity.
Perhaps by resting, we become more fruitful and creative in our productive seasons - rather than grinding on until we're burnt out.
At the end of 'Radical Rest,' there's a handful of beautiful ways to incorporate rest in your winter.
You can head over to Pip to read the article, here, or pick up a copy at your local magazine seller.
Happy hibernation from my cosy resting spot to yours.
Congrats on the Pip Magazine! Sounds like a good excuse to grab a copy and enjoy a quiet cup of tea!
