I am a materialist. I love material things. Sounds controversial when having less stuff and being a minimalist is gold star behaviour on a suffering planet. Let me explain why I love stuff...
I love a good handmade mug and swoon over the ones you mention too. The only thing is I love a good solid cup of tea and I find the vintage ones so small...but really, I use a coffee plunger as a teapot (so easy to clean) so I could just take the plunger with me too I guess. I’m the way that you love your pile of plates, I love my bath towels! There’s 4 that match from 14 years ago when I thought that stuff was important. But there’s also a bunch from mum when she was upgrading her towels. I can’t remember why, maybe for ones that match? But they are still going strong. Good quality to begin with, I suspect I’ll have them for life. Some must be 20 years old but still continue to dry us well and that’s all I need! There’s one that needs a little repair on the edge but otherwise perfect good ENOUGH towels! And often I think of an old acquaintance who once mentioned that she had to buy new towels every year due to an apparently grubby husband. Her life was full of matchy matchy but yet there was never enough...interesting huh?
Anyways, a bit rambly from me! Have a lovely week!
Hey I love your words. Makes me streamline navigating my own life story easier. As usually good suggestions and movements through out this. Thanks for this all - I sometimes need a jolt into looking at things differently - I love that I get grounded when I read your work x
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 agree! I am somewhat of a minimalist, but the things I have I LOVE. I realised how much being intentional about my stuff made an impact when I thought about losing it all in bushfires a few years ago... and how I’d really miss those items and the memories from them. It thankfully didn’t happen but minimalism definitely does not equal non- attachment to my stuff for me. The more I appreciate what I have the more I look after it!
This is EVERYTHING I have been struggling with - thank you! My Bendigo pottery tea pot and the bowls I cooked with my nanna in can’t go...... and that’s ok 💚
I love this; a practical guide to a very human behaviour. Curious about the one mug in, one mug out mechanism (I'm also a mug-a-holic). What do you do with the "out" one?
Your patching and mending is swoon-worthy.
I want to learn...
Ahhh! Thanks! :D

Yes! You have permission to love stuff. It's so important to surround yourself with beauty and love.
Your jeans make me think of this article: https://cupofjo.com/2023/01/03/jeans-without-end-catherine-newman/
Cool, thanks for that. I'll have a read.

Thanks Susanne. The out-mugs go back to the op shop. :)
this speaks to my heart,

Ah thanks Kate!
